Santa baby, slip a sable under the tree for me
Been an awful good girl
Every year, my mom asks me for Christmas gift suggestions, and every year I wait til the last minute to give her any. Thank goodness for rush shipping, right? If you’re also looking for last-minute, stylish gifts for the lady in your life — mom, sister, friend, significant other — keep reading because I’ve got you covered!
And let’s be honest; I’m not getting any kickbacks for sharing these links. These are actually things I would like to find under the tree or in my stocking (hint hint), and they’re still available for Christmas Eve delivery. But you’d better hurry because time is running out. Christmas Eve is only a week away, and paying more for shipping than the actual gift kind of sucks.
You’ve seen the hair tie memes, right?
“I wish I lost weight as easily as I lose hair ties.”
“If I ever get married, somebody remind me to take the ponytail holder off my wrist before I walk down the aisle.”
Finally, a gift that solves for both — holding your hair tie handy, while still looking elegant (and managing not to cut off the circulation in your wrist). The Maria Shireen bracelets come in a variety of metals and styles, but I’m partial to the Bittersweet Classic in Silver, which is 30% off right now at Anthropologie.
My go-to gift for others recently has been something from Venus ET Fleur, the company that sells arrangements of real roses that last for an entire year. Hey, if it’s good enough for Sarah Jessica Parker, it’s good enough for me. Imagine giving someone one (or a box full) of these roses on a birthday, anniversary or other holiday and it lasting until the next time one of those occasions rolls around. Cool, right?
Admittedly, they are expensive; a dozen can run you around $300. But when you think about how much a dozen roses that will quickly die can cost, this suddenly seems like a value. Plus you can customize the box material and rose colors. If you’re not looking to break the bank, start with something from the Mini Collection; the Lé Mini Square with nine small roses starts at $79, while the Lé Mini Round is just $39 (shown here).
To think, I’ve drunk wine from a box and out of a Solo cup (and that’s okay!). But I’m at the point where I want to drink better wine the way its makers intended. Enter a decanter.
The simplest idea behind a decanter is that it allows the wine to breathe, while also separating sediment from the wine. Note: I’m not a wine expert, but I do know that decanting is supposed to help it taste better. And frankly, it just looks so pretty when served from such a glass vessel. I like this one from Luigi Bormioli, available through Nordstrom.
I’ve never gotten as many compliments on a fragrance as when I started wearing Chanel’s Chance Eau Fraîche Eau de Toilette. It’s fresh and lightly floral; apparently the notes you get with it are a combination of citron, jasmine and teak wood. I only know it smells amazing and that people are regularly telling me that (thanks Uber drivers!).
Besides, what girl could say no to something from Chanel? Although I love the large bottle for home (3.4 oz for $100ish), there’s also a smaller version that you can slip into your purse or suitcase for refreshes when you’re on the go. It even comes with two refills so that when you run out, you don’t have to buy the whole shebang again; it’s like getting Chanel perfume at a discount. WHAT?!
Okay guys, I’m hitting Publish on this now, just because there isn’t a lot of time left to order these items, and I don’t want to wait until the (absolute) last minute. But let me know if you have any suggestions yourselves, and if I have time and additional inspiration, I’ll update this list ASAP! Happy holidays!
If you’re not following Busy Philipps on Instagram, consider this your PSA to do so now. Go ahead. I’ll wait right here til you get back. Seriously… this page can stay in your browser.
That’s because Busy Philipps is everything an Instagram personality should be (and that’s not to ignore all the other roles in her offline life — actress, writer, producer, director, talk show host, wife, mother). Obviously, she’s crazy successful, so she doesn’t have to post ads for tummy teas or teeth whiteners; can we please stop with those already?! But she doesn’t take herself too seriously (side note: she wears a nightgown at the end of every episode of Busy Tonight) or tell you how to live your life, unless it’s sharing indie rock songs she has on repeat. She’s honest, forthright and freaking hilarious. Her Instagram stories are some of my favorite mini series — if we can call them that now — next to John Mayer’s Current Mood. In the words of one of my favorite style icons, Rachel Zoe, “I die.”
Anyway, I got carried away, but I think Busy’s new book would be an awesome gift. But what does it have to do with style, you ask? I mean, look at the suit on the cover!! Girl tends toward the quirky, and I love it. She also had a moment at the People’s Choice Awards this year wearing something like a fitted black turtleneck with this giant black tulle skirt that gave me old Hollywood glam vibes (meets Carrie Bradshaw). But whatever. I just think this book would be cool.
