I’m no model lady. A model’s just an imitation of the real thing.
— Mae West
I don’t know that Mae West even said the line above, but it seems like every basic girl quote is attributed to West (or Marilyn Monroe… or Audrey Hepburn). And what could be more basic than starting my own fashion blog?
Plus, I don’t want there to be any confusion here about my thoughts behind this site. While I’m admittedly not a model lady, I’m also not a model. I have all the usual self-conscious complaints, which is why I generally hate being photographed. I mean, I seriously detest it. Besides, what am I supposed to do with my hands?! Unless a photo involves a Snapchat filter that makes me look like some kind of adorable woodland creature, I usually prefer that the camera stays away… far away.
Now you may be asking yourself how I ended up here. (Spoiler alert: I’m asking the same question.) The best answer I can come up with right now is that it’s my attempt to do something that forces me to leave my comfort zone. The more accurate response is that my friends frequently request to raid my closet and strangers stop me on the street to ask where I bought my boots.
This is my way of answering the latter, whether I pass you on the sidewalk or you see my outfit in your Instagram feed. It’s my excuse to buy another jumpsuit and to wear leather pants at 1:00 in the afternoon. And worst case scenario, this is my online lookbook so I can halfway live out my dream of having Cher Horowitz’s closet. Hope you’ll join me.
